Alberta has invited 722 workers to apply for provincial nomination through the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) in three draws held between September 1 and September 9, 2026. The latest Alberta PNP draws targeted workers in the Alberta Opportunity Stream, Accelerated Tech Pathway and Dedicated Health Care Pathway.
For foreign workers and temporary residents in Alberta who are planning to apply for Canadian permanent residence, the latest AAIP draws highlight the importance of having the right occupation, employment situation, eligibility profile and immigration strategy.
Alberta PNP Draws September 2026: 722 Invitations Issued
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program issued a total of 722 invitations across three draws in early September 2026.
The draw results were:
| Draw Date | AAIP Stream/Pathway | Invitations | Minimum Score |
|---|---|---|---|
| September 1, 2026 | Alberta Opportunity Stream | 575 | 56 |
| September 3, 2026 | Alberta Express Entry – Accelerated Tech Pathway | 96 | 60 |
| September 9, 2026 | Dedicated Health Care Pathway – Express Entry | 51 | 60 |
| Total | 722 |
The Alberta Opportunity Stream accounted for the majority of invitations, with 575 candidates receiving invitations at a minimum score of 56.
The Accelerated Tech Pathway issued 96 invitations to candidates with a minimum score of 60, while the Dedicated Health Care Pathway – Express Entry issued 51 invitations, also with a minimum score of 60.
What Is the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program?
The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) is Alberta’s provincial nominee program. It allows the province to nominate eligible foreign workers and entrepreneurs for Canadian permanent residence based on Alberta’s economic and labour-market needs.
A provincial nomination does not itself grant permanent residence. After receiving a nomination, candidates must generally submit a permanent residence application to the federal government through Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
For candidates nominated through an Express Entry-linked pathway, a provincial nomination can significantly strengthen their Express Entry profile.
Alberta Opportunity Stream Issues 575 Invitations
The largest September draw was conducted through the Alberta Opportunity Stream.
On September 1, Alberta invited 575 workers with a minimum score of 56.
The Alberta Opportunity Stream is particularly relevant to workers who are already living and working in Alberta and meet the stream’s eligibility requirements.
The September draw is also notable because its minimum score was lower than the previous August 14 draw, which had a minimum score of 58.
However, candidates should not assume that a previous draw score guarantees an invitation in a future round. AAIP draw sizes, selection priorities and minimum scores can change depending on the province’s immigration allocation and labour-market needs.
Alberta Continues to Target Technology Workers
On September 3, the Alberta Express Entry Stream’s Accelerated Tech Pathway issued 96 invitations to candidates with a minimum score of 60.
The technology pathway continues to provide an opportunity for eligible workers in Alberta’s technology sector.
The September result was similar to an August 6 Accelerated Tech Pathway draw, which issued 95 invitations with the same minimum score of 60.
This consistency shows that technology-related occupations remain an important part of Alberta’s immigration strategy.
Candidates working in eligible technology occupations should therefore pay close attention to AAIP requirements and maintain an up-to-date Worker Expression of Interest profile when eligible.
Healthcare Workers Also Remain a Priority
Healthcare continues to be another important area of Alberta’s immigration strategy.
On September 9, the Dedicated Health Care Pathway – Express Entry invited 51 candidates with a minimum score of 60.
The healthcare invitations were part of Alberta’s broader focus on addressing labour shortages in key sectors. As of September 9, the AAIP had issued 895 invitations through its dedicated healthcare pathways during 2026.
For healthcare professionals working in Alberta, this may create an important opportunity to pursue permanent residence through a provincial nomination pathway.
However, healthcare workers still need to meet the specific eligibility requirements of the applicable AAIP pathway. Having a healthcare occupation alone does not automatically result in an invitation.
Alberta’s 2026 Immigration Priorities
The latest Alberta PNP draws also provide insight into the province’s broader immigration priorities for 2026.
According to the latest AAIP information, Alberta’s priorities include sectors such as:
- Healthcare
- Technology
- Construction
- Aviation
- Agriculture
- Manufacturing
The province has also continued to use different AAIP pathways to select candidates according to specific labour-market needs.
This means that Alberta immigration in 2026 is not simply about achieving a high score.
Your occupation, job offer, work experience, employer, wage, language ability and pathway can all be important factors in determining your immigration options.
How Competitive Is Alberta PNP in 2026?
Candidates should understand that the AAIP has a significant pool of potential applicants.
As of September 9, there were more than 22,000 active Worker Expressions of Interest in the Alberta Opportunity Stream pool. The Accelerated Tech Pathway had more than 2,000 active profiles, while the Dedicated Health Care Pathways had more than 1,300.
This demonstrates why simply creating an expression of interest does not guarantee an invitation.
Candidates need to understand how their profile compares with the requirements and priorities of the particular pathway they are targeting.
What Happens After an Alberta PNP Invitation?
Receiving an invitation from the AAIP is an important step, but it is not the same as receiving Canadian permanent residence.
Generally, the process involves:
Step 1: Submit your AAIP application
After receiving an invitation, the candidate must submit the required provincial application and supporting documents within the applicable deadline.
Step 2: Alberta assesses the application
AAIP reviews the candidate’s eligibility, employment information, documents and other requirements.
Step 3: Receive a provincial nomination
If the application is approved, Alberta issues a provincial nomination.
Step 4: Apply for permanent residence
The candidate then applies to IRCC for Canadian permanent residence through the appropriate federal process.
Step 5: Complete federal processing
IRCC conducts the federal assessment, including admissibility checks such as medical, criminality and security requirements.
For candidates already in Canada, there may also be work permit options depending on their circumstances. CIC News reports that, since June 9, 2026, certain Alberta Opportunity Stream nominees can benefit from a federal temporary measure allowing eligible base PNP applicants to apply for a bridging open work permit before receiving an Acknowledgement of Receipt for their permanent residence application.
What Does the September 2026 Alberta PNP Draw Mean for Workers?
The latest Alberta PNP draw results demonstrate that there are still opportunities for qualified foreign workers seeking permanent residence in Canada.
At the same time, Alberta’s 2026 immigration system is increasingly targeted and strategic.
Rather than relying only on a general score, candidates should evaluate:
- Their current occupation and NOC
- Alberta employment and job offer
- Wage and working hours
- Canadian work experience
- Education
- Language test results
- Express Entry profile
- AAIP Worker Expression of Interest score
- Whether their occupation falls within a priority sector
- Which AAIP pathway may provide the strongest opportunity
A candidate who does not qualify for one AAIP pathway may potentially have another immigration option depending on their individual circumstances.
